Amazon Wins NFL Streaming Rights For 10 Games, Twitter Out

Amazon Wins NFL Streaming Rights For 10 Games, Twitter Out

Millions of people tuned in through Twitter, and those games saw far more social media traction than normal.

Amazon Prime is about to get the football treatment.

Amazon began flexing its muscle in the National Football League content space last June when it unveiled "All Or Nothing", a documentary series that explored the lives of players on and off the field over the course of a season.

The deal is said to be for around $50 million - about five times the amount Twitter paid the league a year ago for the rights to stream the Thursday night telecasts.

"Since past year, we have collaborated on over 40 live stream partnerships and we will continue to bring the best live content to our customers around the world".

Other bidders for the streaming deal include Google, Facebook, and of course, Twitter. Aside from requiring a Prime subscription to watch, Amazon also plans to recoup a little of their payout by displaying ads on the screen. That's up from the $10 million that Twitter paid for a similar 10-game streaming deal last season, the Journal says.

The news marks the latest for a major sports league on streaming rights, aiming to boost online viewers as more fans move to internet platforms.

At the time, the streaming deal was something of an experiment.

The games will still be broadcast on CBS and NBC.

'The games will continue to be available on television as well.

The games will still be produced by either CBS or NBC, depending on the game, and games will still be shown on NFL Network as well.

The games are available to members of Amazon Prime, which costs $99 per year.
