It posted photos of corpses lying next to weapons and said IS publications were found with them.

Islamic State has waged a low-level war against soldiers and police in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula for years but is now targeting Christians and broadening its reach into Egypt's mainland. Its increasingly sophisticated tactics are likely to fuel sectarian tensions and embarrass el-Sissi.

Distraught by the terror attacks, Graham, president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, said in a Facebook Post on Tuesday, "Piers Morgan is absolutely right in what he told Fox News about Sunday's church bombings in Egypt".

The attack came just after Pope Tawadros II, leader of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, finished services.

We are no longer dealing with local Salafi groups obstructing Copts from praying in a local church or fanatical mobs burning Christian homes and property - or even a state that resorts to divide-and-rule policies to detract attention from its governance failures. "This is a very risky development", said Mina Thabet, a rights researcher focusing on minorities. "It leads to terrorism and to Christians being targeted", he adds. Some collapsed near the caskets, which bore the word "martyr". In the Tanta attack, the bomber was able to enter the church and reach the front rows before blowing himself up. "He was like an angel", he said.

Pictures of Maher went viral on social media, showing him sitting helplessly in blood-stained robes.

The shoot-out takes place one day after twin bombings at Coptic Christian churches in two cities left at least 45 people killed.

Last December, a suicide bombing hit Cairo's St Peter and St Paul Church, killing 29 worshipers, mostly women and children.

Bodies have been buried since late Sunday, as Christians both mourn and raise frustrations over law enforcement security.

With nowhere else to turn, Egyptians - and Christians in particular - will continue to turn to el-Sisi for protection and support.

It needs to be approved by parliament before it is implemented.

According to Andrew Abdel Shaheed, and Egyptian Copt in Brussels, the said measure would only trail people for no reason and be arrested without warrants. But authorities already have been waging a heavy crackdown on dissent for years, so it was unclear what would change.

The state of emergency is now in effect following parliaments approval.

Courts and prosecutors have issued mass death sentences and held hundreds of other detainees in preventive detention for more than two years, exceeding the amount of time allowed by law. "It's a purely political decision that is meant to have a psychological impact".

Many of the Islamic satellite channels in Egypt that broadcast criticisms of Christians had been closed after the military ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

The next month, security forces used deadly force to break up two pro-Morsi protest camps in Cairo. "The status quo of media and press freedoms is ideal for the security authorities to work without much noise".

Approximately 10 percent of Egyptians are Christian, the largest minority in the Middle East.

"Teams of Egyptian lawyers will be formed to sue countries involved in funding terrorism, and I think you know them by name", Abdel Aal said.

The group later released a video threatening Egypt's Christians with more attacks.
