Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham to Star in 'Fast & Furious' Spin-Off

Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham to Star in 'Fast & Furious' Spin-Off

Johnson has been a part of the franchise since 2011's Fast Five, and Statham's character made a brief debut in 2013's Fast & Furious 6 before becoming the chief bad guy in 2015's Furious 7. The main franchise is expected to run for two more films, with Fate kicking off what star Vin Diesel has described as a new trilogy.

Joined by franchise stalwarts Roman (Tyrese Gibson) and Tej (Chris "Ludacris" Bridges), the crew heads to New York City, where some of the film's most spectacular vehicle action is set.

"The film is new and selling fast". Add to that an unwise follow-up line about the Walker character that undermines the final scene of both this movie and the last one, and you've got a disappointing "Fast & Furious" movie.

Early scenes with him and Statham's returning Deckard Shaw are a definite highlight, the banter between the two hilarious to watch play out, but it actually Statham who later steals the show in a thrilling climactic action scene, one involving a very unique accessory.
.

However, the film's U.S. takings were down sharply on the previous movie. That way, fans will still have a new Fast and Furious adventure to look forward to, and Morgan, Diesel, and the rest of the creative team can hone the idea for Fast 9 until it's flawless.

"Fate of the Furious" sets a record for mentions of family as Charlize Theron's new villain, a cyber hacker named Cipher, lures Dom to the dark side by preying on his weakness. "And that's why I think it resonates with people". The 8th movie made more money in the first weekend than any other movie on opening weekend. Fate of the Furious is a lock to pass the billion-dollar sales mark and seems to be in good shape to top Furious 7's hugely successful run.

The most interesting character continues to be Letty, an emotional powerhouse whose glower reflects the fact that she's only character to truly register appropriate disgust at Dom's betrayal.

It's been reported that Universal is considering a storyline that would include Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs, Jason Statham's Decker Shaw, and Charlize Theron's Cipher.

Rodriguez sees another reason the loyal "Fast & Furious" fandom has grown exponentially as the franchise's episodic story arc has taken its heroes global, from racing the streets of Los Angeles a quarter mile at a time to saving the world from nuclear annihilation on the icy plains of Russian Federation: diversity.
