Feds arrest suspected shooter of border agent Brian Terry

Border Patrol agent Brian Terry's suspected killer has been captured in Mexico, Fox News reported.

Two of the weapons the crew used were part of the Obama administration's botched Operation Fast and Furious, which had allowed straw purchasers to buy weapons in the USA and then smuggle them back to Mexico, where many ended up in the hands of the cartels.

Brian Terry, 40, died December 14, 2010, in a USA gun-smuggling operation known as Operation Fast and Furious.

Two of those guns were found at the scene of Agent Terry's murder. The operation set off a political firestorm.

Heraclio Osorio-Arellanes, 38, was arrested by Mexican authorities in Chihuahua on Wednesday and is expected to be extradited to the US. CNN has learned that the USA government is now working with Mexico to extradite the suspect in Terry's death as soon as possible.

"Under the Trump administration, we have renewed our cooperation with Mexico to better secure our border and address cross-border crime", Mr. Kelly said.

Terry was killed in 2010 during a shootout between border patrol agents and a group of five thieves looking for drug dealers to rob. The foundation raises funds for the families of fallen U.S. Border Patrol agents and establishes educational scholarships for men and women pursuing an education and career in law enforcement.

As for the rip crew's remnants, in 2015, Ivan Soto-Barraza and Jesus Leonel Sanchez-Meza were each tried and convicted in Tucson, Ariz., of first-degree murder in connection with Terry's death. When Terry and the others fired non-lethal beanbag rounds, the rip crew responded with automatic fire from AK-47 rifles. Terry was struck in the back and died shortly afterward. That man was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Rosario Rafael Burboa-Alvarez also has pleaded guilty to murder.

Osorio was identified as one of the cartel "rip crew" that roamed the US-Mexican border, seeking to ambush smugglers.

The last member, Jesus Rosario Favela-Astorga, is still at large.

During Thursday's Special Report on Fox News, Correspondent William Lajeunesse reported that the suspect was deported seven times before he murdered Terry in a firefight with Border Patrol.
