Madrid rivals to meet in Champions League semis

Reigning champions Real Madrid will face neighbours Atletico Madrid, while Monaco meet Juventus, when the four remaining sides fight for a place at the UEFA Champions League final in Cardiff.

Leicester's fairytale Champions League campaign came to an end last night as they could only manage a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid. Many had hoped to see a rematch in the actual final, but instead we will see Real and Atletico over two legs on Tuesday, May 2 and Wednesday, May 10.

Real Madrid and Monaco will host the opening legs on May 2 and 3, respectively.

The draw also revealed that the victor between Ajax and Olympique will be the home team in the final scheduled for May 24 at the Friends Arena in Stockholm in Sweden. Atletico have a chance against the champions and 11-time winners: clean sheets are now rare commodities at the Bernabeu and Real have not kept a single one in the Champions League all season. Conversely, Monaco has scored three goals in each of its four knockout matches against Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, with 18-year-old Kylian Mbappe and Colombian veteran Radamel Falcao among those leading the way. It won a record-extending 11th title last season.

Real Madrid and Monaco have home advantage in the first legs on the 2nd and 3rd of May, with the return legs taking place a week later.

Monaco have only once reached the final, when they lost to Jose Mourinho's Porto in 2004. Strong team with many talented players & an impressive run this season.

With United now four points outside the Premier League top four, winning the Europa League for the first time may represent their best chance of qualifying for the Champions League.
