Microsoft's latest Windows 10 preview lets you preserve battery life with throttling

Microsoft's latest Windows 10 preview lets you preserve battery life with throttling

After recently releasing the Microsoft Windows 10 Creators Update, the giant tech company also announced that it will be launching different updates for Windows operating system each year. With each release being offered for free, and in the case of home users rolled into monthly update releases, this is unlikely to have a major effect on most users.

On the Office side, Microsoft noted that starting October 13, 2020, Office 365 ProPlus or Office perpetual in mainstream support will be required to connect to Office 365 services.

Frankly, I think this is too aggressive: Microsoft should target one feature release of these products per year, in my opinion. In the meantime, the only way to test it right now is to join Microsoft's beta program for Windows 10 and install the latest update. However, the company frequently upgraded smaller functionalities in the Office suite nearly on a weekly basis. A key part of that economic impact is staying current with Windows 10 with feature and security updates.

The announcement came quietly packaged with a blog post on Office 365 ProPlus - basically, Windows 10 update will align with Office's enterprise apps now.

Power Throttling works by Windows 10 determining which processes are running in the foreground and gives them more priority over those in the background.

Microsoft's tool was already in place giving an error message that read "Your PC uses a processor that isn't supported on this version of Windows and you won't receive updates".

So, we may not have an exact release date, but we can expect to see a full release of Redstone 3 (whatever Microsoft ends up calling it) in five months or so. Now nearly two years after the OS was released to the public, Microsoft has some concrete answers.

The company said the update also allows users to broadcast their gameplay on Windows 10 and Xbox One via a built-in broadcasting technology. System Center Configuration manager, a key tool for managing updates to client endpoints, will also have the same support cycle/release timing so its is ready for the feature updates at the same time. It is not clear what Microsoft plans to introduce with the new update, which will roll out in September.
