Police arrest two more over British parliament attack

London's top anti-terror officer says two more "significant arrests" have been made in connection with the Westminster attack, in central and northern England.

A 35-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were arrested at separate locations in Manchester on Friday.

A 58-year-old man and a 27-year-old man were arrested at separate addresses in Birmingham on Thursday, and detained under the Terrorism Act (TACT). Two are still in a critical condition, and one person is considered to have life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the London attacker acted alone and there is no reason to believe "imminent further attacks" are planned, May said, adding that he had been investigated before but police believed he was a peripheral figure at the time.

The arrest came four days after the lightening assault that unfolded in the shadow of the Houses of Parliament, in which an apparently lone attacker killed four people and wounded 50 before being shot dead by armed police. Armed with a knife, he stabbed a police constable, before being shot dead by police. British police investigating a deadly attack on parliament made a new arrest yesterday as officials set their sights on accessing WhatsApp, the heavily-encrypted messaging service that was used by the killer.

Those included grievous bodily harm, weapons possessions and public order offences. "Londoners are showing right now that we will always stand up with strength to confront terror and we will never be cowed by it". The Met is trying to determine whether he acted "totally alone", was inspired by terrorist propaganda, and whether anyone might have "encouraged, supported or directed him".

He named 75-year-old Lesley Rhodes as the fourth victim, who died in hospital on Thursday.

Masood drove his rented SUV into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge on Wednesday before crashing his auto into railings and then running into the grounds of Parliament.

In an investigation conducted by the United Kingdom police, Masood was believed to have been inspired by Islamic ideology.

Masood drove his rented SUV across the crowded Westminster Bridge on Wednesday, striking several pedestrians.

The night before the attack, Masood stayed in a hotel in Brighton on the southern English coast, where he told staff he was visiting friends.

IS militants have been responsible for numerous bloody attacks around the globe, but also have claimed events later found to have no clear links to the group.

Mike Crofts, a former Army captain who served in Afghanistan, said he was in the courtyard outside Parliament following a meeting with politicians about using boxing to engage young men when the attack took place.

Among 40 injured, 29 were admitted to hospital including 12 Britons, three French children, two Romanians, four South Koreans, one German, one Pole, one Irish, one Chinese, one Italian, one American and two Greeks. The employee, who did not give her name, said she saw the name Masood on his credit card.

Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack and police inquiries since have concentrated on whether Masood was acting with accomplices.

The project, Muslims Unite for London, was set-up by Muddassar Ahmed who was in Parliament when the attack happened and captured footage of the scene on his phone.

"From the face, from the beard - that is 100 percent him, " she said.
