Police say gunman at Florida gym was ex-employee

Wilson, who graduated from the University of Miami, had just returned from vacationing in Ghana where his family is originally from.

Janine Ackerman was hired as the assistant manager to the general manager of the Equinox gym in Coral Cables last August.

"His generous spirit and warm demeanor made him an always welcome presence in our world", the gym said in a statement.

Police patrol outside of the Shops at Merrick Park after a shooting on Saturday, April 8, 2017, in Coral Gables, Florida.

A Florida gym employee completely lost it after being fired from Equinox fitness club in Coral Gables over the weekend. "He was not smiling". She said the scene was now secured. Ackerman was not reportedly conscious after being shot inside the Equinox gym. "It was too loud for it to have been a weight dropping".

"There is nothing I can say to lessen the searing pain we all feel at this awful moment", said Equinox Executive Chairman Harvey Spevak in a statement to SELF Sunday afternoon.

"I had just left Equinox, " he said.

"There is nothing I can say to lessen the searing pain we all feel at this awful moment", managing partner Harve Spevak wrote on the fitness chain's Facebook page Sunday. Another victim was critically wounded, police said.

Former colleagues of Wilson's said that he was a "nice guy, quiet... not a insane guy". "There were a lot of people hugging, all of us, whether we're members or people who work there, we hugged one another and I think we will hug our way through this and try to move forward". A company source said Leondakis called more than 50 people.

He said the shooter appeared fine moments before it all began, "although he was agitated earlier in the day after meeting with management".

An eyewitness at the scene shot video of a rescue helicopter landing at the nearby Coral Gables Senior High School.

Coral Gables police responded, placing stores inside the adjacent mall on lockdown. Witnesses reported hearing five gunshots followed by a number of people running for safety. He was usually clean shaven but some of the witnesses who saw him Saturday morning noted he looked disheveled. "The general manager and one of the trainers were shot". He said the mall was closed until Sunday.

It was accounted for that about 100 individuals were eating at Yard House's open air porch when the shooting started. "It was just insane".

"We had everyone underneath tables and got everyone to the back", he said.
