ISTANBUL/ERBIL The Turkish military bombed Kurdish militants in Iraq's Sinjar region and in northeastern Syria on Tuesday, widening a campaign against groups affiliated with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

A statement issued by Turkish military says the targets located at Sinjar Mountain in northern Iraq and in a mountainous region in Syria.

The air operation was conducted "within the scope of the worldwide law" and "with the aim of destroying the hot beds of terrorism which target the unity, integrity, and safety of our country and nation", the statement said. "By this attack, Turkey is trying to undermine Raqqa operation, give (IS) time to reorganize and put in danger lives of thousands of" displaced, the YPG said on its Twitter account.
