Xherdan Shaqiri seals Stoke's win over strugglers Hull with stunning strike

Xherdan Shaqiri seals Stoke's win over strugglers Hull with stunning strike

Hull, without an away win under Marco Silva, responded well and spurned a number of chances to level in an entertaining first half at the bet365 Stadium. Mark Hughes assured everyone there was no sense of panic, though there must have been a degree of concern when Hull came back from a goal down and began looking for a victor in the second half.

The second period began as the first ended and Hull got the goal they deserved on 51 minutes when centre-back Harry Maguire took advantage of poor defending and a deflection to make it 1-1 after a scramble in the area.

Marco Silva's had a very good impact since his arrival at Hull in January but his future remains uncertainty - the City boss is actually being linked with Italian giants Inter Milan.

'We have five more games, the next game is one more chance to win and take points.

The home team had added quality in the final third and it paid off when Peter Crouch headed in Jonathan Walter's fine cross.

And incredibly, each of Shaqiri's last five strikes in the Premier League have all been scored from outside of the box, making the "Alpine Messi" one of the most risky players from distance in the country.

The same player could have doubled Stoke's lead three minutes later from another Shaqiri invitation, reading the chipped pass well but sending a right-foot volley over the bar. Although cut open a few times at the back Hull kept coming forward and showed some stylish passing of their own.

Hull: Jakupovic 6, Robertson 7, Maguire 7, Huddlestone 7, N'Diaye 6, Ranocchia 6, Clucas 6, Grosicki 6, Dawson 6, Niasse 5, Markovic 6. Burnley then came close to a leveller but Kamil Grosicki and Oumar Niasse were denied by Lee Grant and Martins Indi respectively.

Stoke manager Mark Hughes: "The icing on the cake was Shaqiri's goal which was a fantastic strike and capped off a really good individual performance".

The Potters were in front early on when Marko Arnautovic latched onto a ball inside the box and lashed a strike into back of the net via the crossbar.

The Switzerland global has a reputation for finding the back of the net with wonder goals, and that has only been further enhanced by his latest scorcher.

Hull were grateful for the reflexes of Eldin Jakupovic, who pulled off a wonderful diving save to keep out Walters' stooping header, for preserving parity with Crouch unable to convert on the rebound.
