Caller AJ: 'Drug taking league players should be dropped'

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said: "The game has taken steps over many years to highlight the risks associated with the use of illicit drugs".

New Zealand coach David Kidwell previously stated they would be looking to make a stance on the incident.

The dropping of both men will be a huge blow for New Zealand's World Cup campaign, however it's understood the severe move will serve as a cultural warning to every other player in contention for the tournament.

Now, the pair's punishments have continued, with New Zealand Rugby League announcing that neither would be selected for the World Cup which starts in late October.

Kevin Proctor of the Titans has stood down as the team's co-captain.

Proctor has stepped down as co-captain of the Gold Coast Titans and will meet with the club's board this week.

Hopefully, the thought of Bromwich and Proctor watching the World Cup from the sidelines means players think twice before their next big night out.

"I've only just been notified of this", Annesley said.

"We will work to try and remedy and build our trust back with the public".

Australian media reported on Monday that Canberra police were still considering whether to charge the pair.

"We had an issue out of the 2013 World Cup". Proctor has said he was too drunk to remember the incident and he could not deny the allegations.

A Canberra man appeared in court today over the alleged sale of cocaine and was granted bail over drug supply.

The court heard police observed Crowther on CCTV video preparing a white powder on his phone, before handing it to Bromwich and Proctor, who rolled up bank notes and consumed the substance.

Bromwich stood down as Kiwis captain and from the Storm's leadership group which includes Kangaroos skipper Cameron Smith.

Rugby league great Peter Sterling has called for harsher penalties for players found guilty of drug offences, declaring they are doing immeasurable damage to the sport. "A playing fee for a test match is $20,000. they're hefty penalties", said Storm chief executive David Donaghy.
