Fan dies after fall at Cubs game

Richard Garrity, a 42-year-old marketing manager from Wheaton, Illinois, was pronounced dead dead early Wednesday morning.

A Chicago Cubs died on Wednesday night after watching a game at the Friendly Confines.

Richard Garrity had been watching the Cubs play the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday.

Garrity fell over a railing and hit his head when he was leaving the stadium around 11 p.m., according to the Chicago Tribune.

The Cubs issued a brief statement, offering their thoughts and prayers to his family, following the accident.

Garrity was a "lifelong Cubs fan" who attended the game as a work outing, the Tribune reported.

"The thoughts and prayers of our entire organization are with his family during this hard time", the Cubs statement said.

The incident occurred after World Series champions the Cubs defeated the Reds 9-5 - a game which ended at 22:20 (local time).

"He was a great guy, everyone loved him", Garrity said of his son.

An autopsy Thursday found Garrity died of head injuries from a fall from height, the medical examiner's office said.

'When he walked in a room, there were no strangers'.
