Federal Prosecutors Issue Grand Jury Subpoenas To Flynn Associates

An Obama administration official who warned the Trump White House about contacts between one of its key advisers and Russian Federation is set to speak publicly for the first time about the concerns she raised.

Amid questions of why it took 18 days to fire Michael Flynn, President Donald Trump said he didn't feel a sense of urgency in firing his national security adviser based on conversations with top administration lawyers. "Mr. McGahn asked me how he did and I declined to give him an answer to that", Yates said.

Yates is likely to testify Monday that she warned White House counsel Don McGahn on January 26 that Flynn's contacts - and the discrepancies between what the White House said happened on the calls and what actually occurred - had left him in a compromised position, according to a person familiar with her expected statements.

Yates said she felt it was critical to get the information to the White House "in part because the vice president was unknowingly making false statements to the public", and also because Flynn was compromised, given that the Russians knew he was misleading other officials.

Kristen Welker, White House correspondent for NBC News.

She added: "To state the obvious, you don't want your national security adviser compromised with the Russians".

She said he "essentially could be blackmailed" by the Russians because he apparently had lied to his bosses about his contacts with Moscow's ambassador in Washington. Her remarks appeared to confirm that Flynn is the target of an FBI investigation.

The notices compelling the associates to testify were the first sign that the FBI has stepped up its investigation into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian operatives. Lindsay Graham, the chairman of the subcomittee, as to whether he had seen evidence of collusion.

NY [U.S.], May10: The timing of the dismissal of FBI Director James Comey coincides with the subpoenas issued to the associates of former national security Advisor Michael Flynn, as part of the ongoing probe of Russian meddling in 2016 election.

Spicer said that after the White House first viewed the evidence and materials on February 2, which were first flagged by Yates on January 26, there were various meetings and discussions that took place leading up to the request for Flynn's resignation on February 13.

Yates' warning came almost three weeks before Flynn was finally fired by President Trump.
