IOC Begins Paris 2024 Evaluation -- Photodesk

"Our friends of Paris 2024 presented us with an exceptional and well-detailed bid presentation", Patrick Baumann, chair of the commission, told a news conference.

Evaluation Commission delegation on Sunday kicked off their three-day inspection to get a better understanding of the French capital's preparation for the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games bid. "Los Angeles is already a great Olympic city but after three days we now realize that that was an understatement".

These latest salvos in the Paris narrative underline a shift in a almost flawless race to aim specifically at hosting the 2024 Games and not just one of the two 2024 / 2028 options that the International Olympic Committee is considering awarding in September.

"Both bids at the basis are extraordinary cities", Baumann said in defense.

After lauding Los Angeles' bid at the inspection in California last week, and with nothing but positive comments about Paris Sunday, Baumann came under fire from skeptical reporters.

"I was involved in several bids but this one is really close to our hearts", said Zidane, now a Paris 2024 ambassador.

"Over the next three days, my colleagues and I look forward to discussing with you and helping you make your proposal an even better one for the presentation to our colleagues, the International Olympic Committee members in July and September", he added.

"The people, the city and the whole of France are fully supportive of our bid which offers a Games of real passion and goal for 2024".

He also congratulated Paris for going ahead and building the residential area that would have been the 2012 Olympic village had they beaten London. The back-to-back visits of the only two cities in the running for the 2024 Games usher in what is expected to be a frenzied final spurt of campaigning. "From this point, it's nearly impossible to lower the score by 10 out of 10", he added.

"They have been impressed by the quality of the landmarks and the iconic venues that we offer".

The visit began on the day Emmanuel Macron, who has given his firm backing to the city's candidacy, was inaugurated as French president, succeeding Francois Hollande.

"With financial and political stability and support, we are ready right now", Hidalgo said.

To win, Paris will need to compete with the huge popularity of the Games in Los Angeles where in an independent survey a year ago 88 per cent of Angelenos say they support the bid.

Estanguet is also now the favourite to replace Angela Ruggiero as chair of the IOC Athletes' Commission after her term ends next February.
