Josh Gordon NFL rejects Browns receiver's reinstatement request

The NFL has denied Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon's recent reinstatement petition, multiple outlets reported on Thursday.

About the only way we could imagine Gordon returning to the field would be in the case that the league removes marijuana off the substance abuse policy.

Per the report, the 26-year-old can reapply for reinstatement this fall.

Gordon had a breakout season in 2013 when he led the National Football League in receiving with 1,646 yards on 87 receptions.

In 2013, Gordon's second year in the league, he had 87 catches for a league-leading 1,646 yards despite missing the first two games of the season.

Once Gordon chose to delay his personal return to the league, head coach Hue Jackson considered himself done with the very talented wide receiver.

Browns executive Sashi Brown said during the scouting combine 2 1/2 months ago that the team had contact with Gordon "just personally because we care for the young man". "Our decision with Josh is just understanding where he is in this process and being able to have him", said Brown.

The NFL apparently isn't ready to welcome Josh Gordon back.

Gordon, who has not played in a regular season game since the end of the 2014 season, can reportedly reapply in the fall. "Obviously Josh is not here and doing what he thinks he needs to for his life which we support 100 percent and after today, today is really the last Josh Gordon comment I want to make about that". The NFL also suspended him for two games in 2013 for violations of the substance abuse policy. The suspended Cleveland Browns wide receiver has been a problem throughout his career and it has cost him again.
