Lalu's benami property case: IT raids 22 locations

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad on Tuesday hinted at severing ties with chief minister Nitish Kumar but vowed to continue the battle against the "fascist" BJP, accusing the Centre of launching a witch-hunt for political vendetta. They attack all those considered a threat for them, but such actions can not deter Lalu Prasad.

Last week, he said that "no one knows whether Lalu Prasad would be in jail or outside before the August 27 rally of RJD".

Earlier in the day, even as the IT raids were on in Delhi and adjoining areas, Prasad's colleagues Jha, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Prabhunath Singh, Bihar RJD chief Ramchandra Purve, Prasad's trusted lawyer Chittaranjan Sinha and others visited his wife Rabri Devi's 10, Circular Road residence at Patna.

Only a few days ago, the BJP had accused Lalu Yadav's MP-daughter Misa Bharti and his two sons, both Bihar government ministers, of being involved in corrupt land deals worth over Rs 1,000 crore. "I am not scared of the government machinery of the BJP and neither, the government supporters".

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad demanded a government probe into the allegations.

Lalu's RJD is a constituent of Bihar's ruling coalition led by Kumar. Lalu's younger son Tejashwi Yadav is the deputy chief minister of Bihar.

However, Lalu's ally JD-U and Congress have adopted a wait and watch stand on the latest developments.

Congress sought to broaden the issue, saying the government was systematically targeting Opposition leaders. "I have not done anything wrong", Karti told reporters at Chennai, reacting to the CBI raids at several places linked to his father and him.

"We say, IT and CBI have now become BJP's new alliance partners as they are being used to intimidate arch rivals like Lalu Prasad and others". "It is a matter for the IT department".

"In its three years in power, the BJP has given an honest, scam-free government, a decisive leader and pro-poor thrust on governance", said power minister Goyal.

"BJP has no courage to suppress Lalu's voice... if Lalu's voice will be suppressed thousands of Lalu would rise in the country.I'm not to be cowed down with such frightening moves", Prasad tweeted.

While raids are being conducted at a dozen locations, ten other official premises are being surveyed by the I-T department, they said. We also discussed what is going on from this morning.
