OnePlus 5 officially confirmed

After CEO Pete Lau confirming that OnePlus is working on something big, a new leak has surfaced online revealing some key specifications of the device.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau re-blogged a Weibo post, confirming that OnePlus 5 is set to arrive this year. Still, we do expect the OnePlus 5 to offer noticeably better battery life than the OnePlus 3T, thanks to the more efficient hardware inside and perhaps better software optimization as well. Notably, the number 4 is considered as unlucky in the Chinese culture. Vivo also named the V3 successor as V5 instead of V4.

It is not going to be too long before we can get an idea on that. Even the smartphone on the posted teaser image may not exactly mean that the flagship killer, which is said to be the OnePlus 5, is coming anytime soon. "The image is accompanied by the words "indulge in labor without a break, just to make a big surprise", followed by the hashtag "#NeverSettle", CNET reported.

For example, the report says the OnePlus 5 will pack a 3,600 mAh battery (the OnePlus 3T features a 3,400 mAh one) which will apparently bring about 25% improvement in terms of charging time. So far, we've heard a lot about the upcoming flagship from OnePlus.

The OnePlus 3 was launched in June a year ago, while its follow-up OnePlus 3T was rolled out in November. The leak says the images to be fake and OnePlus 5 would, in fact, come with horizontal dual camera setup on the top left corner. Going by the teaser, it seems that the handset is now in an early production phase.

None of these specs have been confirmed by OnePlus itself and should be taken with considerable amounts of skepticism.

The teaser doesn't reveal much otherwise; it basically just serves as confirmation that the OnePlus 5 is in the works and it will be surprising.
