Paul Ryan seeks to spotlight tax reform amid White House drama

Ryan said lawmakers had a responsibility to review the facts ― "to be sober, to be dispassionate" ― and not rush to judgment on a report saying Trump pressured former FBI Director James Comey to abandon an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

"Now is the time to gather all the pertinent information", Mr Ryan told reporters yesterday after a private meeting of House Republicans.

"It is obvious there are some people out there who want to harm the president", Speaker Ryan also told reporters Wednesday, as ThinkProgress reported.

He backed House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz's request to see the apparent February memo where Comey made these claims, along with other documents.

Chaffetz's move came a day after he wrote the Federal Bureau of Investigation demanding memos and notes that Comey reportedly compiled after several meetings and phone calls with Trump. "We can't deal with speculation and innuendo and there is clearly a lot of politics being played".

Comey was sacked last week as the FBI was investigating whether Trump's presidential campaign associates had colluded with Russian Federation to influence the outcome in his behalf.

The comments are the latest sign that the Republican party is maintaining its support despite a series of explosive revelations in the last 24 hours that have led to calls from some Democrats for the president's impeachment.

"And I do believe that there are very serious, legitimate concerns to any version of tax reform, and we're going to have to accommodate those concerns as we move to a new tax system".

Following a week of nonstop bombshell reports regarding President Donald Trump, former FBI Director James Comey and the leak of highly classified information to Russian diplomats, the House Democrats are going to hold a news conference to discuss all of these topics and chart a path forward. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland, says Mueller is a "solid choice".

House Speaker Paul Ryan, who represents Racine County in Congress, tried using his weekly press conference Thursday morning, which was aired online, to highlight legislation passed or being worked on in the House.

While the specific details or how much Ryan knew is unknown, it is interesting to note that President Trump has provided $100,000 to Paul Ryan's Super PAC.

Cummings questioned why Chaffetz wasn't pressing the Trump administration with the same zeal that he showed during the Clinton investigations.

"We need the facts".
