Renfroe's 2-run homer in 10th gives Padres 6-5 win

Renfroe's 2-run homer in 10th gives Padres 6-5 win

The first walk-off homer of Renfroe's career capped a resurgence for the power hitter whose batting average dropped to.200 on May 9.

Diaz came back out for a second inning in the 8th and got Santana to ground out and Pina to fly out before walking Orlando Arcia, who ended up getting thrown out trying to steal.

Lonnie Chisenhall hit a three-run homer in the first, when Cleveland scored five times off Chris Archer (3-2).

Padres manager Andy Green gave Chacin two thumbs up for his showing in the Windy City. "As he started to shrink the zone, pitchers started coming back toward it and then he drives balls in the gap and drives runs in".

"I'm definitely just grateful to be out there after missing a full year last year", Sogard said.

OUR PREDICTION: The over is 19-6-1 in the Brewers' last 26 games overall, is 7-2-1 in Nelson's last 10 starts versus an opponent that owns a losing record and are 15-6-2 in his last 23 starts when their opponent allows five runs or more in their previous game.

Sogard, a former Padres farmhand, hit a high, arcing shot to right, his second.

The Brewers are now 22-18 and sit just a half-game behind St. Louis for the NL Central division lead.

"It would have been nice to get the win", Sogard said. "I knew I didn't get all of it, obviously".

"I'm having fun just being part of this team", said Sogard, who missed the entire 2016 season because of a knee injury.

Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson pitches to a San Diego Padres batter during the first inning of a baseball game, Tuesday, May 16, 2017, in San Diego.

Austin Hedges started the rally by drawing a one-out walk from Brewers starter Chase Anderson. The Padres left fielder hit his third double of the season with San Diego, a deep one that bounced off the left center field wall and scored Hunter Renfroe. Perdomo made it 3-0 with his triple. The Brewers have scored 11 runs in this series and five or more runs in eight of their last nine games.

Four straight singles by Keon Broxton, Hernan Perez, Jesus Aguilar and Domingo Santana gave the Brewers a quick 2-0 lead.

The Padres widened their lead to 4-2 in the fifth on a double by Perdomo and a run-scoring single by Cory Spangenberg. The Brewers countered in the sixth on Aguilar's two-out solo homer off Perdomo.

Nelson (2-2) gave up two runs and seven hits, with one walk.

It went to extra innings tied at 4 when Eric Sogard - channeling some of his righteous #nerdpower - deposited a go-ahead homer into the right-field seats.
