Teen 'owns up to' tossing 68-year-old woman in Florida pool

When a 68-year-old woman asked people at a party to quiet down, a teen slammed her to the ground before throwing her in a swimming pool.

Nancy James, 68, has bruises on her arms, legs and ankle after being grabbed, falling and then thrown into a pool during a party at her apartment complex Saturday.

The teen was then taken to the Broward Regional Juvenile Facility.

The Broward County Sheriff's office on Monday told TheBlaze that deputies are investigating the incident at the Players Place Lakeside community in North Lauderdale and looking for suspects.

But instead of turning the volume down, or even just fobbing the woman off, the teens began taunting her and filming in her face. He then he drags her to the pool and tosses her in - all while a crowd cheers him on.

"She's an elder, and you should show respect for your elders." said neighbor Tracy Ann Simmonds. 'I didn't care what they were doing.

Leon Balfour, 16, made a court appearance Tuesday, after he surrendered himself to police the day before. She had her cellphone and her key fob in her pocket when she went into the water. "The kid just has not evolved yet into what you're supposed to be as a human being". A group gathers around James as someone is heard saying "throw her in" in the background.

"It just shouldn't happen", she said. She was examined by North Lauderdale paramedics on the scene, police said.

A friend of the victim told NBC 6 that she had recently undergone hip surgery. They said there were almost 200 kids in the pool and surrounding area.

It shows the woman entering the party with her two dogs to speak to the host - presumably in an effort to get them to turn their music down.

"Nice kids that live here".

The Broward Sheriff's Office is now investigating the incident and looking to speak with witnesses.
