US needs September 'shutdown' to fix Senate 'mess'

President Donald Trump and his aides have sought to paint the deal to fund the government and avoid a shutdown as a win for his fledgling administration, even as he publicly bemoaned the deal and called for a shutdown to fix the "mess" in Congress.

Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly later added: "As promised, the budget will secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws".

Mulvaney condemned Democrats - who argue that they won numerous battles within the bill - for celebrating the spending deal as a victory for their party.

Echoing Republican allies, Trump described the deal as "a very important thing for the men and women of the United States military".

Trump abruptly halted an interview with CBS News after being pressed on his wiretapping allegations against Barack Obama.

"The (budget deal) does not fund President Trump's immoral and unwise border wall or create a cruel new deportation force", House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Sunday in a statement.

The spending bill will fund the federal government through September 30, when Congress must again vote on another budget or face a shutdown, according to CNBC.

He called for more Republican Senators to be elected in 2018, or for the rules to be changed to 51%. The leaders - Democrat, Republican, House and Senate - work well together.

On Tuesday, House Speaker Paul Ryan said Congress has a "long ways to go" before September but also said he shares Trump's "frustration" with the inappropriateness of the entire process.

The reason for the plan negotiated between the Republicans and Democrats is that we need 60 votes in the Senate which are not there! We....

Trump suggested that if there were not enough GOP lawmakers in the Senate to overcome a legislative filibuster, then the party leadership should dismantle the rule.

President Donald Trump says the nation "needs a good "shutdown" in September" to fix a "mess" in the Senate.

"We had a strategy and it worked", he told The Washington Post. Patty Murray, D-Wash. And if there is a shutdown in September, won't it clearly be the president's fault? It also includes a funding boost for the National Institutes of Health, despite Mr. Trump's request to cut NIH funding. Well, the Democrats' victory lap is ruffling some feathers with the White House.

Mulvaney is citing a $15 billion infusion of defense spending — about half of what Trump asked for in March — as a huge win for the White House, among other measures.

In the chart above, the numbers for the Trump budget percentage changes were calculated by the Office of Management and Budget using the fiscal 2017 continuing resolution-the stopgap funding bill Republicans signed at the end of Obama's second term, which expired April 28.

He's touting a "massive and badly needed" increase in military funding as well as additional money for border security.
