911 Call Captures Harrowing Account of Couple Held Hostage — Georgia Prison Escapees

Hale added the men took off their shirts and starting waving them at him in an attempt to get him to slow down. "They told them that they would probably be dead in 24 hours and they didn't have anything to lose".

"You survived", the man said to his sobbing wife. They also ate a beef stew the woman had been preparing, took valuables and clothing, and ordered them to concoct a story that would hide their identities.

They were on their stomachs, hands cuffed behind their backs, staring up at more than a dozen law enforcement members. This photo provided by the Elbert County Sheriff's Office taken on October 13, 2015 shows inmate Ricky Dubose.

Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose were captured after a foot chase ended in Rutherford County Thursday evening.

Shortly after 5 p.m. "It's the two people from Georgia, escapees".

At that point, the fugitives left in a Jeep Cherokee, Swing said. "You survived. You did a good job". Authorities in Georgia have released another photo of Dubose, showing prominent tattoos.

Rowe and Dubose were captured after a homeowner saw them trying to steal his auto and held them at gunpoint.

Deputies soon spotted the vehicle and began a 20-mile (32 kilometer) high-speed chase down Interstate 24 southeast of Nashville, Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Bill Miller said. At left is Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn, and at right is Rutherford County Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh.

"Did they just come in?" The fugitives then locked up 31 other inmates and jumped out with the guards' 9 mm Glock pistols, carjacking a driver who happened to pull up behind them.

"I prayed like I have never prayed before", Hale said.

Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose were apprehended in the rural community of Christiana, Tennessee, ending a multi-state manhunt that began Tuesday morning.

The fugitives were taken to the Rutherford County jail, and in a hearing on Friday, wearing orange jumpsuits and surrounded by officers, they waived their right to challenge their extraditions to Georgia.

Authorities hold a news conference held at a truck stop Thursday, June 15, 2017, in Christiana, Tenn.

Almost 60 hours before, authorities launched a multistate search after they escaped from a state corrections bus in Central Georgia and allegedly killed two prison guards.

The man says he doesn't know which direction the suspects went because he and his wife were tied up and had just got loose. One of them fatally shot Sgt. Christopher Monica and Sgt. Curtis Billue before fleeing in a stolen auto with the guards' 9 mm handguns.

Hours before their capture, Putnam County, Georgia, Sheriff Howard Sills said the public was in "grave danger" and that authorities did not know where the risky inmates were.

Dubose and Rowe quietly crossed state lines between Wednesday and Thursday before they ditched the stolen truck in Moore County, Tennessee. The Tennessee and Georgia bureaus of investigation weren't immediately sure who would collect the reward.

Both escapees were in prison for armed robbery and other crimes.

ORIGINAL STORY: For two days, police in the south were engaged in an all-out manhunt in search of escaped convicts Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose.

The slain Baldwin State Prison officers were Christopher Monica, 42, who was hired in 2009, and Curtis Billue, 58, who was hired in 2007, Georgia Corrections said.

But the agency says authorities have not decided how to disperse the reward, which comes from multiple law enforcement agencies.

"We will do everything in our power to support their loved ones, and we will not forget their sacrifice and service", Deal said.
