Former Edmonton UFC fighter Tim Hague dies following boxing match

Tim Hague, right, made a decision to swap the UFC cage for a boxing ring The Canadian fighter's friends and family are at his bedside as he fights for his life.

Keeping fans up to date with Hague's progress, his friend and fellow MMA fighter Cody Krahn took to Facebook to issue a brief statement, which was later deleted. He was then immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and required emergency surgery to relieve pressure from a brain bleed.

"He was so strong, a fighter right to the very end". Hague remained out on the canvas for several minutes before eventually leaving the ring while Braidwood was being interviewed.

Hague suffered a serious brain injury after a brutal knockout loss in a boxing match over the weekend which left him in a coma.

Once we got Tim backstage and with the doctor we could tell he needed to go to the hospital.

'Tim is now in a coma.

Our deepest condolences go out to Hague's family and friends during this hard and tragic time. Braidwood (8-1, 7 KOs) hit Hague clean on the head and when the 10-year mixed martial arts veteran fell flat onto his back, his head bounced violently off the canvas.

Another source close to the fighter revealed that he was brain dead.

Hague (21-13) suffered eight career knockouts in MMA, including four within the last 22 months.

Hague entered this bout with Braidwood with a 1-2 overall record and was knocked out in December.

Alarmingly, earlier this year Hague was also competing in what's known as "superboxing" bouts - essentially boxing with MMA gloves, and was known to have been KO'd in just 40 seconds as recently as April 7th.
