A local councillor and a celebrated singer-songwriter are among those from Lisburn and surrounding areas named in the 2017 Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Also in the new Queen's Birthday Honours list, BBC Radio 3 In Tune presenter Sean Rafferty has been awarded an MBE for services to Broadcasting.

Alfred Reoch is awarded an MBE for services to Scouting, the Anglican community and drama.

Rowling is receiving the award for services to literature and philanthropy.

Oscar-winner Olivia de Havilland, who turns 101 next month, is the oldest woman to become a dame in this centenary year of the modern-day honours system.

Their recognition came as comedian Billy Connolly was given a knighthood and actress Julie Walters was made a dame in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours.

Among those honoured, the Queen has awarded Harry Potter author JK Rowling The Order of the Companion of Honour.

Sporting stars honoured include Ireland rugby captain Rory Best, who receives an OBE for services to the sport, and Northern Ireland football captain Steven Davis, who is given an MBE for services to his sport.

Finally, technology investor Mark Mason receives an MBE for services to the digital economy.

Bernard Kenny, who was stabbed in the abdomen as he tried to stop neo-Nazi Thomas Mair attacking Mrs Cox outside her constituency surgery in Yorkshire, receives the George Medal one year on from the murder.

He has been recognised by Her Majesty the Queen for his services to music and charity and will accept his award in Buckingham Palace later this year.

The inspirational midfielder, who captained his country at Euro 2016, is awarded an MBE.

Lynda joined Oldham Council in 2001 and retired in December past year weeks before she was presented with the Chief Executive's special recognition award at Oldham Council's Top Awards ceremony.
