President Trump Admits He's Not Making it Easy to Get Democrats' Support

Republicans won two seats in the U.S. House late Tuesday, defeating Democrats in SC and also in the most expensive U.S. House race in history, Georgia's 6th Congressional District.

And while Democrats were mourning in Georgia Tuesday night, they nearly stole a House seat in SC where Archie Parnell came within about 2,800 votes and 3 percentage points of defeating Republican Ralph Norman.

This allegation comes following the loss by the Democratic candidate John Ossoff in the special election for Georgia's Sixth District after Trump nominated Tom Price as Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Vulnerable Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-Fla.), a top 2018 Democratic target who voted for ObamaCare repeal in May, also called the Georgia victory a "surprise" and "impressive win".

In a letter to her colleagues on Wednesday about the special elections, Pelosi maintained an upbeat tone. "All the Fake News, all the money spent = 0".

Even though Trump won the reliably red state in the 2016 presidential election, he did so by just 1 percent, as opposed to former Republican candidate Mitt Romney, who claimed the state with a 26-point lead.

"It was very important to them to have someone who had relationships in the community, someone with a track record", said Handel about constituents she spoke to. "We all have a lot of anger towards what Donald Trump is doing, but we've had four special elections, and Donald Trump, four, Democrats, zero", Ryan said. "Democrats from coast to coast threw everything they had at this race, and Karen would not be defeated", House Speaker Paul Ryan said in a statement.

Still, many Democrats believe whomever might replace Pelosi would end up with the same negative hits from Republicans. "We have a unique opportunity to flip control of the House of Representatives in 2018", he said.

The president wrote Thursday: "I certainly hope the Democrats do not force Nancy P out". Republican Karen Handel beat Democrat Jon Ossoff by about 5 percentage points. The 76-year-old California Democrat easily fended off a challenge from Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan to retain her leadership position in November. "That's no way to build a national party".

BENNETT: It's a criticism rooted in generational angst about the future of the Democratic Party and its leaders.

"They just want to obstruct", Mr. Trump said. "And you can't get away from the fact that in Georgia this was seen as a test of whether the resistance by Democrats was going to overpower the Republicans or whether the Trump vote would hold". She was the main focus of numerous Republicans' ads against Ossoff. Intense Democratic grassroots efforts on the ground in Georgia likely made up some of that ground.

"This is not the outcome many of us were hoping for".

When the astonishingly bad health plan is finally made public and people watch their parents, children, siblings and friends be denied health care, and when they experience the full horror of President Trump's foreign policy, Democrats will win in district after district, if they do the groundwork that is always necessary to win elections.

"In special elections, because they pop up unexpectedly, often parties are at the mercy of whoever pops up", he said before turning to the Georgia 6th District race.
