President Trump "Considering Terminating" Russia Special Counsel Robert Mueller

President Trump

"I think he's weighing that option", Christopher Ruddy, the chief executive of Newsmax, a conservative website, told PBS' "NewsHour" on Monday. Conservative Analyst Ann Coulter said that Attorney General Sessions "never should've recused himself" from the Russian Federation investigation. Now that Sessions recused himself from the Russian Federation investigation, then the authority to sack Mueller rests with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

After President Donald Trump's friend, Chris Ruddy, said Monday night that Trump is considering firing Mueller, Rosenstein said in a Senate appropriations subcommittee hearing that Mueller can "only be fired for good cause", and it would be his job to put that good cause into writing.

Mueller is leading the investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election and potential ties between Moscow and Trump's presidential campaign.

"Republicans are delusional if they think the special counsel is going to be fair", Gingrich tweeted. It's unclear whether the president could override those rules and order Rosenstein to fire Mueller.

In the PBS interview, Ruddy said Trump had considered replacing former FBI Director James Comey with Mueller, who also was a former FBI director during the George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations. He is nearly certain to be asked about the possibility of the president firing Mueller.

Comey would not say in his testimony last week whether he thought the president sought to obstruct justice, but added it would be up to special counsel Mueller "to sort that out".

"Chris speaks for himself", a senior administration official told the Daily Caller in an email. "Look who he is hiring", tweeted former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich, an informal Trump adviser.

"Comey is a good friend of special counsel Robert Mueller - such a good friend, for about 15 years now, that the two men have been described as 'brothers in arms, '" York wrote.

"I think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel".

"There's some real conflicts", Ruddy said.

The Post report cited anonymous sources who were briefed on requests made by investigators.

Three members of the legal team known to have been hired so far by Mueller have given political donations nearly exclusively to Democrats, according to a CNN analysis of Federal Election Commission records. "Don't waste time trying to undermine one of your few allies".

"We're not going to let the President choose who conducts this investigation", he said.

Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff has publicly warned Mr Trump that Congress would find a way to reappoint Mr Mueller if he was sacked.
