Talks on propping up UK PM May's Conservatives are "very positive"

Talks on propping up UK PM May's Conservatives are

The proposed deal would see the DUP back the Conservatives in votes on the Budget and on any confidence motion while other matters would be negotiated on an issue-by-issue basis.

During it, the Queen will read out the pre-prepared words- written by Tory ministers - which will set out the Government's legislative programme for the coming year.

Sky's David Blevins says sources have confirmed that there is still no agreement yet between the Conservatives and the DUP, despite Mrs Leadsom confirming the Queen's Speech.

May is due to host the leaders of all Northern Ireland's parties at Downing Street to talk about the potential implications of any deal with the DUP over power sharing at Stormont.

The government's plan for the next parliament will be outlined in the Queen's speech on Wednesday, and will include laws needed to deliver Brexit and new immigration legislation.

Nearly half of voters are not in favour of a Tory-DUP deal to keep Theresa May's Government alive, according to a new poll.

"Both parties are committed to strengthening the Union, combating terrorism, delivering Brexit and delivering prosperity across the whole country", the source said. A defeat for the Queen's speech, however, would be tantamount to a vote of no confidence in May's government.

The Queen is expected to attend day two of Royal Ascot on 21 June after the State Opening of Parliament and the Queen's Speech earlier in the day.

The event, which marks the start of the parliamentary year, had been due to take place on Monday - the same day as the start of Brexit negotiations.

Republican party Sinn Fein have stressed that they will be seeking reassurances over any deal with the unionists.

In a letter to Mr Davis, they said it was vital agreement was reached on how the devolved administrations would be represented at the talks.

The DUP MPs Nigel Dodds and Sir Jeffrey Donaldson are locked in negotiations with First Secretary of State Damien Green and Gavin Williamson, the Chief Whip.

"We are working on a series of fronts and we are working very, very hard to deliver good government for Northern Ireland and good government for the United Kingdom", he said.
