It's Almost Time! 'Doctor Who': 13th Doctor to be Revealed on Sunday

BBC will be announcing who will be taking Peter Capaldi's place as the Doctor after the Wimbledon men's final.

America says the next person to play the titular time-traveler in the iconic sci-fi series Doctor Who will be announced Sunday.

This new Doctor isn't the only change coming to the long running BBC series.

The actor will succeed Peter Capaldi who took the role in 2013 and will leave in the 2017 Christmas special. His final appearance will be in the show's Christmas special in December.

And that's not the only replacement in the works: Showrunner Steven Moffat is also on his way out, to be replaced by Broadchurch scribe Chris Chibnall in Season 11.

Doctor Who first aired in 1963.

Talk about who will become number 13 has been a major topic this time around. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the star and creator of Amazon's Fleabag, has been mentioned as a potential female Doctor (although her representatives have denied this to be the case), as has Broadchurch star Olivia Coleman and even Tilda Swinton. Close behind is Kris Marshall, who was favored to land the role earlier this year. It has always been known that his last show will be this year's special Christmas episode, at the end of which his Time Lord will "regenerate" into the "Thirteenth Doctor", who will be played by a new cast member.

We recommended that Doctor Who fans keep an eye on the Wimbledon match on your local TV channels if you want to catch it live, and if not just check back here for all the news!
