Judiciary chair says he will ask Donald Trump Jr. to testify

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), chairman of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, has requested information on why Natalia Veselnitskaya, a Russian lawyer, was allowed to enter the United States without a visa.

The move comes one day after Grassley announced that he will be calling former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort to testify before the committee.

President Donald Trump's eldest son released an email chain Tuesday that shows him discussing plans to hear damaging information on Hillary Clinton that were described as "part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr. Trump".

Lawyers for President Donald Trump have raised the possibility that the request for the meeting could have been part of a smear campaign against him, trying to tie him and his campaign to Russian Federation.

A former assistant attorney general overseeing the criminal division under President George W. Bush, Wray now works as a criminal defense lawyer based in Washington, D.C. "From what I've seen so far from meetings with Mr. Wray and from looking at his record, he appears to possess these qualifications".

That concern is "certainly something we want to explore", along with the Trump campaign's data analytics, as part of a broader committee investigation into Russian meddling, Schiff said.

The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said on "Fox & Friends" that he has written to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and DHS Secretary John Kelly in an effort to find out what happened.

The high-powered attorney behind Trump

CLARIFICATION: An earlier version of this story misstated whom Donald Trump Jr. had emailed.

According to the Former Russian prosecutor, Natalie Veselnitskaya, she was initially denied a U.S. Visa to enter the county but was later given immigration parole.

In a statement Tuesday, Trump's eldest son said he was posting the emails "in order to be totally transparent".

'But the real way I feel comfortable inviting him is ever since President Trump was elected it seems like every conversation that has come from somebody in the family, where there's been some sort of issue, they've seemed always to be very, very open, ' Grassley said.

"Happy to work with the committee to pass on what I know", Trump Jr., said in a tweet responding to a call from Republican Senator and member of the investigative panel Susan Collins that he be interviewed as part of the probe. Dianne Feinstein told CNN Thursday she wanted Trump Jr.to go before the committee as early as next week.

He said the president had not been aware of Trump Jr.'s June 2016 meeting and didn't find out about his son's email exchange until "very recently".

Investigations into possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign have shadowed the White House for months.
