Panthers release OT Michael Oher with failed physical designation

Panthers release OT Michael Oher with failed physical designation

Oher, the subject of the movie "The Blind Side", was released by the Carolina Panthers on Thursday after he failed a physical.

Oher had planned to report to training camp, a league source told ESPN last week, but his future with the team remained in doubt because of the concussion. He then signed a three-year extension in 2016 for $21.6 million, but was placed on injured reserve with a concussion only three games into the 2016-17 season.

This move isn't very surprising.

Oher was a member of the 2012 Ravens Super Bowl team.

"While on the plane headed to see concussion specialist Mickey Collins I learned that GM Dave Gettleman has been dismissed", Oher said on Instagram Tuesday.

The biggest question now for Oher is, should he retire or continue to pursue an National Football League career? Also he's always interested in how your family is as well. Oher said he "hated to hear" the news about Gettleman, "and for the people who were happy and had something to do with it downstairs (front office), Karma's a MF!"

It's the first personnel move under Panthers new interim general manager Marty Hurney, who was hired on Wednesday.

Berkessa was Oher's Uber driver at the time of the alleged assault when the two got into an argument after Oher reportedly thought Berkessa was driving a certain way to get more money.

He's eligible to receive a guaranteed $900,000 of his salary, according to ESPN.
