Rick Perry Got Punked in a Fake Interview With Russian Pranksters

Apparently, there is a pair of pranksters known as the "Jerky Boys of Russia" who were able to arrange a call with Secretary of Energy Rick Perry last week.

The call, though, did stray into more serious US energy policy, in which Perry defended President Donald Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris accords, reported USA Today. Not only that, but the entire conversation was a hoax that bobbed in and out of subjects that one would expect, like coal and natural gas, along with Perry's hope that the Paris accord wouldn't harm USA relations with the Ukraine.

That's embarrassing enough, but that wasn't the real reason Kuznetsov and Stolyarov called: They wanted to tell Perry that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko had developed a revolutionary new biofuel composed of home-brewed alcohol and porcine manure, a.k.a. moonshine and pig shit, as translated by Pravda Report.

This is partly true: while the Pentagon is chiefly in charge of protecting the USA from major threats, the National Nuclear Security Administration is a semi-autonomous agency within Perry's Department of Energy. The timing of the call aligned with Perry's recent engagements, as he had hosted the Ukrainian delegation at the Department of Energy in June and the call was portrayed as a follow-up to that meeting.

The administration is supportive of sanctions against Russia, Perry added.

"I hope that stepping away from the Paris accord will not have any negative impact with our relationship with the Ukraine", said Perry to what he believed to be the Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman.

Audio of the conversation was posted to a website called Vesti.ru.

Meanwhile, two pranksters are somewhat notorious, and no one's quite sure how or why this call took place, but it's more fodder for the Perry joke file.

Kuznetsov and Stolyarov have previously targeted Arizona Sen. Perry said he opposes the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which would bring additional supplies of Russian gas to Europe's pipeline network. A fierce critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, McCain visited Kiev in late 2013 - some of the most tumultuous days in the initial phase of the Ukraine crisis - to show support for those who ultimately toppled then Russian-friendly President Victor Yanukovich. He went on to chat with the "prime minister" using a translation service for just over 22 minutes, totally unaware that he had been well and truly pranked by #Russian comedians.

Seems like Perry's got some phone censoring to do.
