Emergency services were called to the building on Market Street about 8am after the body was discovered.

It's been reported that one of the men initially thought the tragic find had been part of "one big stitch-up... but it turns out it wasn't" according to the Herald Sun. She was found dead in the shower on the following morning.

Police were trying to establish whether the woman had been known to the men, and if she had consumed drugs and alcohol.

Four men all aged in their late 20s and early 30s and from the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales were taken into custody before being released overnight.

Other women who stayed at the apartment overnight said they hadn't heard anything suspicious until the sound of sirens at 8am.

Four men are now being interviewed by detectives.
