Mauricio Pochettino explains his decision regarding Josh Onomah

Tottenham Hotspur midfield prodigy Joshua Onomah has joined Championship outfit Aston Villa on a season-long loan and committed his future to the north Londoners in the process by signing a new long-term contract with Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Steve Bruce's side, who are among the favourites to win promotion from the Championship, have added the 20-year-old to a list of more experienced acquisitions in the transfer window, with John Terry, Christopher Samba, Ahmed Elmohamady and Glenn Whelan having previously arrived.

He is yet to make his full Premier League debut for Spurs but has made 13 sub appearances in the top-flight and seven starts in cup competitions since graduating from the club's prolific academy.

Onomah played only 18 minutes of Premier League football in five short cameos last season and is behind at least four other players in his favoured central midfield role.

Onomah was also part of England's under-20 squad that won the World Cup earlier this summer.

The move comes following the news that Aston Villa's Jack Grealish will be out until Christmas with injury.

Despite the deal to take him to the Midlands only being confirmed on Friday (4 August), Onomah is available for Villa's season opener against newly-relegated Hull City on Saturday, after undergoing his first training session with his new teammates.

The Scottish champions were in pole-position to land the 20-year-old midfielder following his standout performances for England Under-20s this summer. Let us know your thoughts.
