Omarosa causes uproar at National Assoc. of Black Journalists conference

At one point, Ms. Manigault-Newman accused Mr. Gordon of brushing aside her relatives' deaths.

Manigault lost her father and brother to violence while growing up in Youngstown, Ohio.

"I fight on the front lines every day", Manigault-Newman said.

When asked about President Trump's recent comments that police should rough up people they are detaining, Manigault-Newman said his comments were wrong. "You can ask a question, but I'm not going to listen to a lecture".

Footage of the event has surfaced on YouTube, including cellphone video (above) shot by a reporter for Heavy.com who attended the panel discussion. For whatever reason, the National Association of Black Journalist thought it would make sense to invite her as a panelist for its annual conference in New Orleans this week, and it obviously didn't go well.

When Gordon turned to the topic of Trump, Manigault-Newman objected.

Heading into the forum, numerous conference attendees said they were steeling themselves for the appearance of Ms. Manigault-Newman, who became famous on "The Apprentice" and has had several fiery exchanges with journalists. She said issues of police brutality are important to the Trump White House.

"I sit at a table where I am not only the only African-American woman, but the only African-American at all", she said, pushing back at questions about how much she was doing for the community.

The crowd became increasingly angered with Manigault's seeming refusal to answer questions about the Trump administration.

She said that part of the problem is an unwillingness of activists to come to the table.

Her personal life was marred by tragedies. She maintained she was working on the issue of police brutality in the Trump administration.

At several points in the conference, participants turned their back to the panel - and a number of journalists walked out, NPR reported.

Most of Omarosa's critics are within the broader black community, which is largely are flabbergasted by her loyalty to President Trump, rather than the minorities he often excoriates.

According to HuffPost, minutes later, when NABJ President Sarah Glover tried to explain why Manigault-Newman had been invited in the first place, the reality show star appeared to blow a kiss to someone in the audience.
