Three Boy Scouts dead after sailing tragedy

Three Boy Scouts dead after sailing tragedy

Thomas Larry has died from injuries suffered in the boating accident on Lake O' the Pines Saturday afternoon.

In a statement, Texas Parks and Wildlife said: "Preliminary investigations and observations indicates the vessel, a Catamaran sailboat, collided with an overhead transmission power line and those on-board may have been electrocuted as a result". Their names weren't immediately released.

Game wardens are now investigating. The oldest teen was found in the boat while the other two fell into the water.

The 11-year-old Boy Scout, tentatively identified as Thomas Larry, was found in an unresponsive state in the boat of good Samaritans who were nearby when the fatal accident occurred. The identities of the two older boys who died have not yet been released.

The mischance is being researched by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's statewide sculling mishap recreation and mapping group.

A gofundme account has been set up to help the family with expenses.

The boy died at a hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he was airlifted after the Saturday accident on Lake O' The Pines, said Steve Lightfoot, a spokesman for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. He was taken to a Shreveport hospital where he remains in critical condition.

We are giving the families our support as a scouting family and providing grief counseling to leaders, scouts, and families, " said Daniel Anderson, Chief Operating Officer of the Boy Scouts of America East Texas Council. "Continue to pray for all families involved in this unbelievable tragedy", Dewayne Stephens wrote in the post. The boys, who were all wearing personal flotation devices, were on a Boy Scout outing and riding a Hobie Cat Catamaran with the sails up.
