With Ryan Tannehill questions, Dolphins reportedly reach out to Jay Cutler

Leadership is crucial to the quarterback position, and if what Smith says is true, the Dolphins should not even think about Jay Cutler.

For now, the No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart is Matt Moore, but reports are that Jay Cutler could be willing to restart his career in the National Football League rather than be up in the broadcast booth for Fox Sports.

Asked if Matt Moore will be the quarterback if Tannehill can not play, Gase said: "Right now, Matt is our quarterback".

The #Miami Dolphins thought they dodged a bullet when starting quarterback #Ryan Tannehill's left knee showed no structural damage after undergoing an MRI.

Kaepernick generated some interest from the Baltimore Ravens after quarterback Joe Flacco went down with an injured back, but the team appears to have moved away from signing him.

Tannehill was at the Dolphins training facility watching practice from inside the building.

"I've done this before in stepping up and getting ready if need be", Moore told reporters Friday morning. He added that the quarterback and team could take a decision to rest his knee for between six and eight weeks in the hope it healed by itself without surgery. "Been kind of going through that, kind of seeing how hard [Tannehill] worked to be back out there and go through the spring - a lot of the things he did to make sure everything was good". It does not matter what his numbers were under Gase, or the relationship that the quarterback and coach have.

However, depending on Tannehill's injury, Gase could very well change his mind.

ESPN reported that Fox announcer Jay Cutler would have interest in ending his retirement if the Dolphins brought him in as a starter and paid him starter money. "I'm focused on myself and the guys who are here right now".

Moore ran the offense through an efficient practice on Friday and will be taking the starting reps for the foreseeable future. He returned this season sporting a knee brace on his left knee after electing to forego knee surgery.
