Jose passes Jersey Coast leaving flooding, eroded beaches

A tropical storm watch was issued over the weekend for southern CT, but it was canceled at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. "Dangerous surf and rip currents are expected to continue for several more days along much of the East Coast of the United States".

Jose brought gusty winds and unsafe surf on Wednesday, but Long Island was spared the potential wrath of the storm that has alternated between hurricane and tropical strength as it trekked northeast this week.

Winds were reported to be blowing at 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 30 miles per hour Wednesday evening.

Jose wasn't moving much, however, and that is a trend that is expected to continue into next week.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — Jose is swirling east of New Jersey, but forecasters are warning of rip currents and coastal flooding.

"Gradual weakening is forecast during the next couple of days", the National Hurricane Center said.

Tropical storm warnings were in effect from Woods Hole, Mass., to Sagamore Beach, Mass. - which includes Cape Cod - and Block Island, R.I.; Martha's Vineyard, Mass.; and Nantucket, Mass.

Meantime, swells generated by Jose are likely to cause risky surf and rip current conditions for the next several days in Bermuda, the Bahamas and much of the US East Coast, the center said.
