Kanu's Lawyer asks Court to Order Buratai to Produce Kanu

Recalled that the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) had approached the acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Adamu Abdul Kafarati, with an ex-parte application asking him to proscribe all the activities of IPOB and declare the organisation as a terrorist organization.

IPOB and its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, are campaigning for an independent country of Biafra made up of ethnic Igbos.

The whereabouts of Kanu, his father and his mother during and after the invasion has remained unknown, Ejiofor claimed in the summons.

In fact, the army accused IPOB members of attacking its personnel with "stones, molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles, among others on a military patrol on September 10, 2017".

Kanu was detained for over a year and half on charges of treason and was only released on strict bail conditions in April this year.

According to the movement, had the military not stopped IPOB and Kanu, the path they were threading was on the verge of making Igbos lose what they had toiled to build in other parts of Nigeria in the past five decades given the way they needlessly antagonized other ethnic groups, including calling for their death.

He called on the worldwide community to prevail on the army to produce his parents and the IPOB leader.

In fact, the federal government had even said it had begun processes of blocking foreign sources of funding to IPOB.

The statement described the ongoing Exercise Python Dance II in the South East as genocide, accusing the governors of the South East of collaborating with the Nigerian government to unleash mayhem against unarmed people.

However, after Saraki's comments, the Federal Government of Nigeria had immediately taken its quest for IPOB's proscription to court where it obtained a court's order proscribing IPOB.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that by the Order of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/871/2017, dated September 20, 2017 as per the schedule to this Notice, the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra are declared to be terrorism and illegal in any part of Nigeria, especially in the South-East and South-South regions of Nigeria as proscribed, pursuant to Section 2 of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act, 2011 (as mended).
