Tom Price's travel combined personal and professional interests

President Donald Trump said he is "not happy" with Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price, as revelations continue to emerge about his use of private planes for government travel.

Price has been under fire for using public funds to pay for private flights more than two dozen times, according to Politico, mixing in some personal travel with business trips.

The committee sent a letter to Price asking that he "identify each usage of a private, non-commercial aircraft by a non-career official" by October 10. President Trump is urging House Republicans to support his American Health Care Act.

Earlier Wednesday, a top White House official said the administration was awaiting the internal and congressional inquiry into Price's use of private jets but declined to say whether the President had confidence in the secretary.

As a USA lawmaker in 2009, Price chastised "the fiscal irresponsibility" of private plane use by government officials in an appearance on CNBC television that he also posted on Twitter.

The Department of Health and Human Services' inspector general is investigating Price's decision to opt for private charter planes instead of commercially available means of travel.

Trump's remarks were the latest example of the White House distancing itself from Price's actions.

"I'm going to look at it", Trump told reporters.

Politico reported that Price's use of chartered jet on taxpayer money extended to personal use.

The news outlet found that since at least May, Price had racked up more than $400,000 in costs for 26 private flights, a total that includes $56,500 for trips just last week, all at the expense of taxpayers.

He has said he will halt private plane travel on official business while the internal review is being conducted.

"I'm not happy about it", the President said when asked about Price, though Mr. Trump has made his anger known about other top officials in his administration - like Attorney General Jeff Sessions - but not forced them out of a job.

The letter also accused Price of using insider information to trade healthcare stocks when he was a member of Congress. "Not everybody can lease a plane like that and fly around the country".
