Alfonso Cuarón, Lin-Manuel Miranda Sponsor Disaster Relief For Mexico, Puerto Rico

Ever since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, Hamilton composer Lin-Manuel Miranda has been in overdrive to raise awareness and funds to help the devastated island.

Lin-Manuel Miranda's "Almost Like Praying" tribute to Puerto Rico is over and the fundraising song was worth the wait. Miranda said those complex verses were inspired by the outpouring of geographic call-outs on social media from those hoping to locate friends and family on the island during the days of "terrible silence" after the storm. And so you know I will never forget I D-M'd Luis Fonzi on Twitter and he just wrote back, 'Bro. I was very aware even as it was happening that this was the worst hurricane to hit Puerto Rico in a hundred years, and I knew that "Maria" would forever have a different connotation on the island as a result of that. In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria - a Category 4 storm that caused a complete power outage and has made it hard for many to access water and food - Miranda has criticized President Donald Trump for mischaracterizing San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz and Puerto Ricans and drawn attention to the fundraising efforts of the Hispanic Federation.

"What I saw on my Facebook feed - and I'm sure a lot of other Latinos feel the same way - was this roll call of towns".

"I wish I could tell you this was an impulsive tweet", Miranda said. Estefan, who was flying to Puerto Rico the next day on a relief mission, volunteered to pick it up. Suela then recorded his section of the song on Sunday, but he didn't have enough bandwidth to send Miranda a wav file. "That gives you an example of the effort and the cooperation involved". "I've never seen the president of the United States attack the victims of a natural disaster".

But while Miranda did tell the Miami Herald that he wanted a stronger federal response to Maria, he did not claim anywhere that he was doing more than FEMA.

The statement came after Trump tweeted multiple messages condemning the people of Puerto Rico for wanting everything to be done for them after Hurricane Maria caused substantial damage to the area and the administration was slow to respond with aid.
