Microsoft to shutter its Groove Music service and migrate users to Spotify

That's the silver lining for those who may prefer Groove to other streaming services: though Groove's tenure is coming it an end, anyone who is a Groove Music Pass subscriber will be able to move their music over to Spotify.

"We're expanding our partnership with Spotify to bring the world's largest music streaming service to our Groove Music Pass customers", explained Groove general manager Jerry Johnson in a blog post. This week, Windows Insiders will be able to start moving playlists and music collections from Groove Music to Spotify, and this will roll out on a wider scale next week. The company is partnering up with Spotify to let users transfer their music from Groove Music to Spotify, which will let you transfer (almost) all of your music and playlists from Groove to Spotify.

Microsoft isn't presenting any new music benefit; rather, the organization is exchanging existing Groove clients to Spotify.

A chatbot extension on the Bing search engine adds another level of utility for users to get a more seamless and friction-free experience, as well as an opportunity for brands to directly connect with consumers.

Although Microsoft's music streaming and buying service won't live to see 2018, its ghost will linger as a music player. Groove Music never reached that level of success.

If you are a Groove Music user, you might be interested to make the switch to Spotify since Microsoft dropped the bomb. Just like Groove's service, Spotify Premium allows listeners to stream ad-free music.

All Groove Music Pass content will be unplayable.

Music downloaded via Music Pass will no longer be valid after the cutoff date. At the same time, it's also a tacit acknowledgment that the online music field has largely become a two-horse race between Spotify and Apple.

Groove Music users whose subscriptions extend beyond the December 31 will receive a prorated refund if your credit card on file is accessible.

Microsoft confirmed that the app will be available and users will be able to use it for listening to music from local drive or OneDrive.
