Sainz Jr excited for Renault switch

Palmer, who has eight points this season courtesy of sixth place in Singapore, said: "My immediate goal is to get the best possible result at the Japan Grand Prix before evaluating the options available to me".

Spanish Formula One driver Carlos Sainz will replace under-performing Briton Jolyon Palmer for the last four races of the season, Renault said on Saturday.

Sainz Jr. made his Formula 1 bow with Toro Rosso in 2015 but will move to Renault for the next race in the United States, ahead of a full-time seat with the manufacturer next year.

At Circuit of Americas in Austin, Daniil Kvyat will drive for us alongside Pierre Gasly.

Sainz was due to join from Toro Rosso at the end of the season but Renault said in a statement that the team and Palmer had now agreed to end their relationship by mutual agreement after Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix.

"I respect the decision and wish the team still the best for the future, Carlos the best and we go our separate ways".

Sainz has scored all-but four of Toro Rosso's points this season and Renault will hope the highly-rated Spaniard's arrival will help them make up late ground in the Constructors' Championship.

Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost thanked Sainz for his three years at the Red Bull junior team and quipped: "We look forward to beating him on track!"

"More specifically, I really want to thank all my engineers and mechanics for their support and tremendous work throughout these years". "I think this chance gives me the opportunity to get to know everyone inside the team, start working with my engineers, try to adapt the auto to myself and myself to the vehicle".

Regarding his race through the field, Palmer stated; "From 18th on the grid, I think finishing 12th is about as good as we could of done, apart from if we didn't have the VSC at the end [deployed for Lance Stroll's stricken Williams] and had one more lap".

Palmer carried a 20-place grid penalty into his final race. This would also seem to confirm Gasly for the remainder of the 2017 season with Toro Rosso.

"Toro Rosso is made up of a fantastic group of people and I wish them only the best for the future".
