Trump lashes out at San Juan mayor over Maria response

"They want everything to be done for them", Trump said.

(SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico) - The mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico, whom President Donald Trump slammed on Twitter for "poor leadership", said she would meet with the president when he visits the island Tuesday if she is invited to do so.

Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico as a powerful Category 4 storm on September 20, killing at least 16 people.

She called out the Trump administration's response to the catastrophic damage sustained by the USA territory.

Trump said the criticism was a reversal from earlier in the week. "You got to be bigger than the nonsense".

After President Donald Trump fired off a number of controversial tweets attacking the mayor of San Juan Carmen Yulín Cruz, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) had some stern remarks for the president regarding his social media habits.

The US president lashed out on Twitter at the mayor of Puerto Rico's capital over what he implied was insufficient gratitude for federal help in the wake of Hurricane Maria.

Right off the bat, Cruz addresses the theory Trump floated about her being ordered by Democrats to say mean things about the president.

"The problem that we have with the mayor unfortunately is that unity of command is ultimately what's needed to be successful in this response", Long said. Every day we have setbacks.

FEMA has been under heavy duress since successive hurricanes pounded the US Gulf Coast and devastated parts of the Caribbean starting six weeks ago.

"My Administration, Governor @RicardoRossello, and many others are working together to help the people of Puerto Rico in every way ..." Nearly half the island's population has been without drinking water, according to the U.S. Defense Department.

Now that Puerto Rico was addressed, Trump continued the discussion not on football (to our surprise) but on North Korea, insisting that our "wonderful secretary of state" not waste time worrying about "Little Rocket Man".

The U.S. government recently waived the Jones Act for the island, lifting trade restrictions on foreign ships that are providing aid, at the request of Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello.

"Trust me, I know things aren't as the locals say, 'despacito, '" Baldwin responds, telling her that help will be on the way by sometime next week.
