EA Acquirers Titanfall studio Respawn Entertainment

They then went on to create Respawn Entertainment together, and the series Titanfall: published by Electronic Arts (EA), it took numerous design choices of a modern Call of Duty game, and added some flair in the form of giant robots. Nevertheless, the deal will see EA pay over USD$300 million in cash and shares, and up to an additional $140 million in performance bonuses. Respawn Entertainment now have a couple projects confirmed to be in the works, with one of them being an untitled Star Wars game, again published by EA. Respawn immediately began working on the sequel, Titanfall 2, which released in October 2016 on both the Xbox One and PS4, as well as PC, and the game has been considered a vast improvement from the first installment.

"Our longtime partnership is grounded in a shared desire to push the boundaries and deliver extraordinary and innovative new experiences for players around the world". Respawn was founded in 2010 by ex-Call of Duty designers Vince Zampella and Jason Ward. "Together, we've brought this to life in the Titanfall franchise, and now with the Respawn team joining EA, we have exciting plans to accomplish even more wonderful things in the future".

Respawn and EA have had a close relationship for years now, and EA isn't shy about opening up its wallet to acquire new studios when it smells success. News of the Respawn Star Wars video game comes on the heels of a recent announcement by EA that it had canceled an in-development high-profile game from its Visceral studios. "Respawn will join EA's Worldwide Studios organization, a global creative collective of leading game development studios", the press release says.

While it wasn't necessary, going with EA made a lot of sense. "This is a great next step for Respawn, EA, and our players", Respawn CEO Vince Zampella said.

The acquisition of Respawn could set EA back in excess of $400 million. Respawn is also developing the third Titanfall and a virtual reality game for Oculus.
