From that point forward, obviously, paper punches have turned out to be basic for school youngsters with three-ring fasteners who need to monitor their work and even undergrads.

The hole puncher employs a lever and spring system to allow the user to line up and punch holes with cylindrical blades through stacked sheets of paper easily.

Now Google has paid tribute to the well-loved tool with an delightful animation.

The doodle likewise praises the little round bits of paper that are a result of the punching procedure, with the Google logo framed from these waste pieces.

The doodle paid tribute to the German inventor Friedrich Soennecken, who filed a patent for the hole puncher November 14, 1886.

It may be recalled that Google used to run a contest called "Doodle 4 India". Soennecken called the device "Papierlocher fur Sammelmappen", which means paper hole maker.

Tuesday marks the 131st anniversary of the hole puncher, the clever tool allowing users to punch identical holes on a sheet of paper. Besides the hole puncher, he invented a binder and a special nib for ink pens that are used for calligraphy. Soennecken, who was the son of a blacksmith, has several inventions to his credit. Today (November 14) is the 131st Anniversary of the Hole Puncher, the humble stationery product that is a part of most homes and offices.

History tells us we have Friedrich Soennecken, a German entrepreneur and inventor, to thank for this officious yet sometimes physically demanding office tool.

If the date involved wasn't a giveaway, Google's accompanying blog post makes it pretty clear which side the search engine comes down on, referring to the hole puncher as an essential "artifact of German engineering". The more drawn out the lever, the more sheets of paper can be punched through with the same negligible power.
