Google is Fixing Its Faux Pas Cheeseburger Emoji

Google is Fixing Its Faux Pas Cheeseburger Emoji

This may seem like a very small issue to worry about but people were reacting so much over on the emoji that Pichai was forced to issue a statement. The debate is this: Do you put the cheese above or below the patty?

According to The Verge, the new OS will ship with a new and improved cheeseburger emoji in which the cheese is placed on top of the patty. Google has fixed its hamburger emoji. But for now, I think the forgiving process can begin.

The emoji at first glance looked similar to other "Hamburger" or "Cheese Burger" emojis used by iOS and Windows Phone.

On Oct. 28, Google CEO Sundar Pichai tweeted that he would "drop everything else" in order to address the controversial placement of the slice of yellow American cheese below the patty, not above it.

According to Emojipedia, which first reported the change, other impending emoji updates include "beer" and "beers", soon to feature a full stein instead of a half-poured draught; as well as "cheese", which corrects a bug that places a line through holes on the edge of the wedge.

Samsung takes a page from Google's misguided playbook, placing the cheese on top of the lettuce and sending chills down the spine.

This cheeseburger conspiracy sparked quite an intense and extensive debate on social media over where the cheese should be placed in the Cheeseburger Emoji, both for Apple and Android's emojis in the recent updates. Later, Google also served "Android burgers" to its employees at its Seattle office. The website is regarded by many as the Wikipedia of emojis.

As the Editor in Chief and founder of Emojipedia, as well as the creator of World Emoji Day, it was Burge's solemn duty to discover the second 8.1 developer preview finally fixes everything wrong with the most popular smartphone platform out there. In Android 8.0, the mug had a weird space between the beer and the froth, but Android 8.1 fixes that by bringing the beer all the way to the top.
