Spurned lover burns 21-yr-old Chennai engineer alive, family suffers injuries

A 22-year-old girl working in an IT company war burnt alive allegedly by her 25-year-old spurned lover at Adambakkam in Chennai. Induja's mother Renuka suffered 50% burn injuries and her sister sustained 20% injuries. Induja, 21, was in her house with her mother Renuka and her siblings Nivedita and Manoj when Akash confronted them around 9 pm.

According to the police, Akash, a college dropout had proposed Sinduja, which she is believed to have rejected. The victim's mother is said to have suffered 49 per cent burns and her is said to be in the ICU.

While a few reports said that the neighbours were the ones who nabbed Akash, an India Today report said that the accused had escaped the scene and was arrested on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, Akash first threatened to commit suicide by setting himself ablaze outside the house. On Monday night, be came to their home and picked up a quarrel with her.

She was being pursued by Akash against her will. However, when the three women came out, splashed petrol on Induja and used a lighter to set her fire.

Upon hearing cries, neighbours rushed to call an ambulance, which they claim arrived after 40 minutes.

Aakash and Indhuja were classmates at an engineering college they had graduated from. "When they opened the door, he poured petrol on Induja and set them on fire and fled the spot".
