Cold winds, 3 to 5 inches of snow on Christmas Eve

The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a winter weather advisory starting 4 p.m. today to 10 a.m. Christmas Day. Snow is expected, with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches possible with slippery road conditions and reduced visibility, the National Weather Service said.

Strong winds may blow down tree limbs and power lines, cause scattered power outages, and damage Christmas decorations. Snow covered almost all highways in northwest Missouri.

Boston last saw more than an inch of snow on December 25 in 2003, according to meteorologist Joe DelliCarpini of the weather service, though the Hub received a dusting on Christmas 2012.

"We're expecting heavy lake-effect snow in areas on the eastern end of Lake Ontario", Reynolds said Sunday morning.
