Deutsche Bank gets subpoena from Mueller on Trump accounts

U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller's office has spent about $3.2 million in the first 4-1/2 months of its investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, the Justice Department revealed in a report on Tuesday. The news came from German newspaper Handelsblatt, Bloomberg and Reuters, which cited unnamed sources.

But Trump's attorneys have said they believe the Trumps' business and financial arrangements are out of bounds for Mueller's investigation, and Trump has denied all along that he has any financial connections with Russians.

A USA official with knowledge of Mueller's probe said one reason for the subpoenas was to find out whether Deutsche Bank may have sold some of Trump's mortgage or other loans to Russian state development bank VEB or other Russian banks that now are under US and European Union sanctions.

If Mueller's team is expanding its inquiry into the Trump family's banking and financial arrangements, that could put it onto a collision course with the president.

Today we learn that special counsel Robert S. Mueller III is following President Trump's money.

In an interview this past July Trump told The New York Times that Mueller would cross a red line if he examined his or his family's finances.

"Deutsche Bank's pattern of involvement in money laundering schemes with primarily Russian participation, its unconventional relationship with the president, and its repeated violations of US banking laws all raise serious question about whether the bank's reported reviews of the trading scheme and Trump's financial ties to Russia were completely thorough", they wrote. They said I own buildings in Russian Federation. "Look, this is about Russian Federation". Deutsche Bank spokesman Chalie Olivier told Newsweek the bank declined to comment on the matter.

At this point, we don't know exactly what Mueller is looking for in the Deutsche Bank records.

In November, several Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives also introduced a resolution calling on Mueller to resign, saying he never disclosed to Congress the details of a bribery case involving the subsidiary of a Russian company that purchased U.S. uranium mines during his tenure as director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Mr Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion with Russian Federation, calling the allegations a "witch hunt".
