Instagram recommended content rolls out in user home feeds

Instagram revealed that the new feature will not get in the way of accounts you specifically follow and will instead reveal itself when you've seen all the posts on offer on your feed from people you follow.

The Facebook-owned company has given a two-liner on how it determines which posts appear in the "Recommended for You" section.

The new "Recommended for You" section will be found in your feed view and will show three to five photos, TechCrunch says.

Instagram is rolling out recommended posts to its users, a new reality first revealed via a test spotted in early December. They can send Live Videos they are watching or creating, to users. However, the recommendations that do not come from accounts a user is actively following may be subject to criticism, something Instagram experienced when they introduced an algorithmic feed a year ago.

The new section is a further evolution of how Instagram wants its feed to look.

Instagram's new feature isn't very different from its previous features that "recommended content".

The app, based in Menlo Park, is used by millions of people each day to share photos and videos, as well as to tag them with relevant subject hashtags. If you see something you don't like, you can temporarily hide "Recommended for You" posts by tapping the camera icon above the post and selecting "Hide". The idea was created to help users access updated stories and posts from interested events directly on their feed.

When you find a hashtag you like, open the hashtag page and tap on the following button. Nonetheless, Instagram has already started rolling out the new update and it's just a matter of time before you start seeing it on your feed. Some expressed their disdain for the recommended feature, citing that they were following the accounts they follow for a specific reason.

'Now it's even easier to stay connected with the interests, hobbies, passions and communities you care about'. Is it something you're going to use or are you going to hide the option? It may seem minor but this is actually a big change for your feed, as not only will you see those that you actually follow, but also sponsored posts and now things that Instagram thinks you'll like based on the algorithm.
